IPL 2018 | MATCH 22 | DD vs KXIP | FANFIGHT PREVIEW

DD vs KXIP: The IPL moves to the North after an enthralling weekend of cricketing action. Two teams who’ve been on either end of the league table are all set to lock horns. Delhi Daredevils are struggling at the bottom of the table with only 2 points in 5 games, while Kings XI have been in dreamland ever since the mighty Jamaican was included in their squad. They are placed 2nd on the table, only decimals away from the southern kings. Two new skippers, two brilliant students of the game and 2 massive points at stake. Moreso, for Kings XI who this year are certain to make it to the playoffs. It’s DD vs KXIP, match number 22 at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

The last time these two teams played at the Kotla, DD won the game convincingly by 51 runs. In the reverse fixture this year, the 2nd game of IPL 2018, KXIP got the better of Delhi. KL Rahul’s magnificent half-century, the fastest in IPL, helped Punjab secure a 6-wicket win.

VENUE: FEROZ SHAH KOTLA, DELHI

PITCH CONDITIONS

The Kotla pitch has largely been batting friendly. The ground dimensions aren’t the largest either making boundary scoring easy for the batters. This will be Delhi’s first IPL game at home this season and also, probably, a change in their fortunes.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR

CHRIS GAYLE

This has to be the easiest pick ever in fantasy cricket. Chris Gayle since his inclusion in the KXIP squad has set the league on fire. Gayle makes six hitting looks extremely easy and he’s made some of the best bowlers in the league swallow humble pie. Gayle in the IPL this year has faced 134 deliveries and scored 34 boundaries(21 sixes and 13 fours). He’s hit a boundary every 3.9 deliveries.

IPL 2018 – Matches: 3, Runs: 229, Average: 229, Strike-rate: 170.89, Sixes: 21, Balls/Boundary: 3.9

KL RAHUL

It was only a matter of time we saw KL Rahul bat at his absolute best. Rahul started off with a fierce onslaught in their season opener against the very same opposition and he’s not slowed down one bit. Watching Rahul bat has to be one of the most pleasing visuals in cricket and the repertoire of strokes he’s added to his arsenal has gone up a notch. This is Rahul 2.0 we’re watching and there’s more to come. He’ll be a player to watch out for.

Matches: 5, Runs: 213, Average: 42.60, Strike-rate: 183.62, Boundaries: 37(27 fours & 10 sixes), Balls/Boundary: 3.1

RISHAB PANT

Retaining a 19-year-old Rishab Pant has paid off brilliantly for Delhi. He’s been the only shining light in a rather disappointing start for them. Pant’s 85 off 49 in the last game against RCB contained brutal hitting, smart cricket and his desire to bat the full quota of overs was mighty impressive. He’s overpowered the likes of Jason Roy, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris and has taken the batting onus on his young shoulders. Impressive? He’s just warmed up. Watch out for this dasher.

Matches: 5, Runs: 223, Average: 44.60, Strike-rate: 176.98, Balls/Boundary: 3.4

DID YOU KNOW?

Chris Gayle has hit 286 sixes in 103 IPL innings. The highest ever and by a distance. Rohit Sharma with 179 sixes is at number 2. Gayle smashes 2.7 sixes every game. However, this year he’s already hit 21 sixes in 3 games.

3 players with the highest strike-rates in IPL will be a part of this fixture. Chris Morris – 166.66, Glenn Maxwell – 165.06 and Rishab Pant – 157.71 are 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively on the list. Andre Russell tops the list with 183.33.

Amit Mishra(3), Andre Tye(3), Yuvraj Singh(2) & Axar Patel(1) together have taken 9 T20 hat-tricks.

WHO WILL WIN DD VS KXIP?

One positive for DD is their record in the last three games against KXIP at Kotla. They’ve won all three. However, they play a team who are cruising past opponents and have been scoring runs at a canter. KXIP in the powerplay have scored at 10.67 runs/over in the first 5 games and don’t seem like slowing down. DD, on the other hand, have lost 11 wickets in the first 6 overs. The most by any team this season. For the 22nd fixture of IPL 2018, DD vs KXIP, it’s advantage KXIP.
